Soak one cup of arhar dal for half an hour. Wash it and boil in a pressure cooker with one tomato, salt, haldi and one piece of brinjal.
Make a tadka of heeng, 2 or 3 methi dana, rai (mustard seeds), curry patta and finely chopped onions.
Add the tadka to the dal. Stir in a half spoon of sugar and half spoon of imli chutney.
